Culinary Arts II students have been learning about nutrition and healthful menus. Each group was assigned a diet-related disease and tasked with creating a meal that would meet their dietary needs. Students assigned with the disease osteoporosis created a dish rich in calcium and vitamin D featuring shrimp and mashed potatoes. Students assigned diabetes created a diabetic friendly Snickers smoothie. Students assigned with anemia created an iron-rich meal featuring salmon and broccoli. Students learned that many diseases can be managed by proper nutrition, and the healthy foods needed can taste great when prepared properly.
